I have been researching a John CALLAGHAN and his North West Mounted Police (NWMP) Records
and Next of Kin disclosures from Canada. His sister Margaret Ellen CALLAGHAN and a
brother Edward James CALLAGHAN are living in Canad as well.
My Callaghan family originated from Kilshannig and Mallow in Co Cork and my GGGreat
grandmother Elizabeth CALLAGHAN (nee KENNEDY from Belfast) and children moved to 35
Sevastopol St,The Falls in Belfast After the death of her husband Cornelius CALLAGHAN in
Mallow 1873. Elizabeth is later recorded as living in Parkmount in Belfast in 1885.
Elizabeth's daughter, Hannah CALLAGHAN was recorded at 35 Sevastopol St the Falls
Belfast in the late 1800s. Hannah married a Robert M GRAHAM in Inch Co DOWN in 1890 and
is later recorded in the 1911 Census living with Robert and their Grand Son Thomas Henry
GRAHAM age 6 and a neice Lizabeth MARTIN age 20 in Banbridge Rural District, Co Down.
John CALLAGHANs NWMP records in 1904 and 1907 state Hannah as Next of Kin, living in
Downpatrick, Co Down.
The address in Belfast (35 Sevastopol Street, The Falls) has included several CALLAGHANS
during the late 1800s and afterwards members of the GRAHAM family (Thomas a builder) in
1907 and 1908 and in 1910 Thomas has moved to 44 Sevastopol St.
The name GRAHAM has been part of family myth for years and the above marriage provides a
link and yet another research objective. During the late 1940s there was mention of a
Hugh GRAHAM visiting a Mary (Maria) (O)CALLAGHAN at her home in Roath, Cardiff in Wales.
I also have a photograph of a family group, taken about 1914 in Newcastle, Co Down and
includes several children and a likely Robert M GRAHAM and wife Hannah (nee CALLAGHAN)
siting at the front. There is also a smiling lad in an army uniform likely off to fight
at the western front.
Are there any (O)CALLAGHANs or GRAHAMs from Belfast or Co Down out there that can put
these peices together?
