Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have been lurking on this list for some time now & was wondering if anyone
has any Cahalane relations.
My Cahalanes' originally hailed from Rath, Baltimore, County Cork & sometime
after the 1852/3 Griffiths Valuation moved to an island nearby. It is
Heir/Hare Island. Anything sound interesting to anyone?

Karen
Chuck,
I am very interested in knowing a little more of the lineage. My
Grandfather, Timothy F. Callahan father and mother were Timothy and
Catherine, or Kate. This part is a bit fuzzy. If this connection holds to be
a connection, the clarification would be a viable break through for my
researching of my Callahan family line. However, my grandfather lived in
Philadelphia, and I do know his parents were from Ireland. But hey, we all
started there somehow.
By the way, I am thrilled at the supportive responses about the
"abuse" issue. This brazen attack on "doing it wrong," amazed me. I was
starting to just say the heck with this. But, as I see I wasn't alone in the
fact that this wasn't an abuse of the list, then the heck with him.
LOL..Thanks.
Jeanne M. Callahan
Happy hunting.
Hi Jerry,
THANK YOU!!! :)

I for one do NOT see any ABUSE what so ever to this list. I am currently
on 5 other mailing lists, and they all run about the same. Geez. What if
someone actually had info for you, and you wont get it if this list was
YOUR way... so therefore, I see NO PROBLEMS nor ABUSE on this list. I for
one ENJOY seeing all the different messages. Some aren't for me, but YOU
NEVER KNOW. Geeez. If you are THAT UNSATISFIED, UNSUBSCRIBE from the list.
My gawd. Don't ruin it for everyone else, who is TRYING to get something
out of it. In any of the 5 mailing lists I am on (except for this one), I
have NEVER seen someone apply a message like this. NOW, I do agree that
there should be a subject. But, this list is running like any normal
mailing list out there.
Not to mention, not everyone out there knows all the different ins and
outs of the Internet. I know this for a fact. I work in the "tech
support/customer service dept" for an Internet Service Provider in Anaheim,
California. So please be kind to those out there that are new to all
of this and are really trying to do their family genealogy.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT RUIN IT FOR THE REST OF US!!!!

I also am enjoying the sudden actiivity on the list. I haven't seen
anything for me but am thoroughly enjoying read all the posts. Who knows
what will pop up?
The list has been so inactive for so long, it's nice to know that we are
still out there.
If the posts bother you, don't open then. My delete key works great !!

Alice,
The name Cornelius keeps popping up but so far I have been unable to make any connection to the John Davis O'Callaghan that emegrated to the US in the late 1700s.

Just adding my ancestors in hopes someone on the list can add some info:
Denis Callaghan (Callahan) christened in Kilmichael in October 1862. He emigrated to US (Boston) in 1882 where he married Julia Manning from Coolmountain (I think?). His parents were Cornelius Callaghan and Kate Leary. I have not found any siblings for Denis, as yet. Any connections out there?

Hi, folks
It's really nice to see the list so active! Here's my two cents worth...
Edmond CALLAGHAN/O'CALLAGHAN/CALLAHAN, etc, was baptised 1820 at Killarney,
Co Kerry, 8th child of Daniel and Hannah/Johanna (BARRY)
CALLAGHAN/O'CALLAGHAN/CALLAHAN. Edmond married Mary DONOGHUE, also from
Killarney, and emigrated in 1854 to what is now the Yarram district of
Victoria, Australia.
Edmond's brother Patrick remained in Ireland, married a CRONIN and lived in
the Glen Flesk area, his sister Ellen married Garrett/Gerard BARRY. The
other five either died in infancy (no burial register was kept until this
century) or, like Edmond, emigrated.
Anyone out there with roots in Killarney?

This is in response to the query about how to get info on Irish parishes or
from Ireland without forking over $$.
Have you checked LDS records at your local Family History Center? They have
Irish church records you can search by name. You can probably do the same
thing on their website too (www.familysearch.com).

I am trying to find information about CALLAGHANs (or variants of the name) came came from Ireland to England (in particular St Helens, Lancs) during the potato famine. I am in particular interested in ELLEN CALLAGHAN (b. 1823 Ireland).
Does anyone have any information about or contacts with Callaghans that moved from Ireland to St Helens?
Thanks

Tim
Patrick D., we have the same fellow. Are you from Colorado? If so, I believe
your dad and my grandmother Edna were siblings. My email is
cjocurry(a)netscape.com. Would love to hear from you.
To whoever wanted to know--John Davis Callaghan Jr. was born 25 May 1795 in
Bath Co. VA
Terri K. I'm reasonably sure my John was not the father of your John, as the
O' was dropped from the name fairly early on. Sorry.
Also, my John was married to Margaret Hutchison (his only marriage), but I
have come across the John married to Mary Foley from time to time in my
research. If there is a connection, I have been unable to establish it at
this time.

Hi,
My great great grandfather was Thomas Callaghan who was born in County Cork,
Ireland in 1810. He came over to Canada into the Prince Edward County and
Bruce County, Ontario and then into Michigan. I'm not sure if they left
Ireland and went directly to Canada or came into New York and then into
Canada. My mother's cousin (last one on her side) is 87 and he told me
that his great grandfather Thomas told him that the name was O'Callaghan, but
when they got established in North American, they dropped the "O".
Here is my information. If you think there is a connection, please
contact me. Thanks. Marie
Thomas Callaghan583. Born 1810/1820 in County Cork, Ireland.
He married Catherine Sharkey. Born 1818 in Ireland. Died in . Buried in .
They had the following children:
i. Elizabeth Callaghan --- this is my great
grandmother who married
Patrick Thomas Toohey.
ii. Thomas Callaghan; Born 1847 in114Canada.

Ontario134.
He married Annie Cook, 1872.

Jim,
This is the web page address, and click on C, obviously for Callahan, and he
is listed as Timothy W. Callahan II, although it should be jr. But anyway,
let me know what you think, of the picture. His credentials are listed, but
that is of no consequence. Take care

Cindy,
I also have a John (?) Callaghan born around 1797 in IRE (Cork), parish ink.
He married a Mary Foley; where I do not know. Their son was born in 1832+/- in Ashland, ME
according to VERY slim records. I have found no record of a Callaghan or it's many spelling
variations in Ashland. This guy was my gggf, but as I am a senior
thee still may be a fit.

Cindy!
Is your John Davis O'Callaghan the one with a dob of 1759; dod of 4 Sep 1839; who was
married on 2 Nov 1792 to Margaret Hutchison; her dob 1766 and dod 23 Nov 1836? If so, we have
a positive link! John and Margaret had the following children, according to my information:
Jeremia Riley O'Callaghan
John Callaghan, Jr
William Oliver Hutchinson Callaghan
Mary Ann O'Callaghan
Sara Bird O'Callaghan
Benjamin F Callaghan
Owen George Callahan (my link to John and Margaret)
Jane ? Callaghan (this entry is in question)
This John Davis O'Callaghan emigrated to the US in the late 1800s from County Cork. No data
on just where in County Cork.
I'm all Irish ears, Cindy :-)!!
