Pat,
I tip my hat to you, sir! Thanks for the info on the Callaghans of
Jackson County, Ohio. I'm a rookie/newbie/novice with the
computer/Internet/mailing lists and I'm happily floored by your quick
response.
When doing my Callaghan research some years ago in the few available
genealogy libraries in the boonies of Northern Lower Michigan, I was unable
to find the names of all of the children of John and Margaret O'Callaghan
I was only able to find John Callaghan, Junior; Wm. O.H. Callaghan; Owen
Callaghan; and Benjamin Callaghan (my link to John Davis O'Callaghan). I
pondered much about the other siblings, but was unable to find info. Again,
my thanks for filling in some blanks for me. If I'm not breaching any
etiquette of the mailing lists or genealogy groups, could you refer to me
the sources of info on the early Callaghans? Would be appreciated!
A tidbit from my family line: my grandmother, Jenny Callaghan
McCullough, born 1870 in Jackson County, told me that her kin always
referred to themselves in everyday conversation as " O'Callaghan," but when
writing their names used the surname "Callaghan." ??? Does this sound
plausible to you?
Happy New Year to you and your kin!
Den McCullough

p.s. We have been slam-dunked for 2 1/2 weeks with about 80" of powder snow
and banshee-like winds. The skiing & snowmobiling is great, but the roads
are hazardous with white-outs and 4-5 foot snow drifts. Today the winds are
diminishing because of the Alberta Clipper now in our area. Temperatures of
15-20 degrees below zero forecast for this evening. Have you heard of the
old Irish saying, "Bad luck is better than no luck at all." 'bye.

Hi Gwen: i really don't know. My grandfather was William G.W.
Callaham, the 1900 census of Montague TX said his father was from VA
and mother from GA. That is all I know. It is an unusual spelling but
my aunt had written CALLAHAM in her Family Bible. Did any of your folks
go to TX. Wm. was born in MS in 1861. married in 1885 in Montague, TX.
Thanks Janelle
Sorry to all. P.T. Barnum was right when he said there was a sucker
born every minute! Thanks to "Nettie Mae" who forwarded this info
advising that the internet access fee is a hoax:
The FCC is NOT going to charge a per minute surcharge. Here are some Q
& A the whole page can be found at
http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa010798.htm
It is something that 2 years ago the FCC ask for public comment on, they
decided NOT to pursue this. Since that time, people have been
circulating this "urban Legend" there is a lot of FCC pages listed on
the page I gave you. Have fun.

This seems to be another of those "quiet" bills that go through Congress
and come back to bite us later. You may wish to reply or pay higher

Congress will be voting in less than two weeks. CNN stated that the
Government would, in two weeks time, decide to allow or not allow a

you access the Internet.

I am looking for a Daniel Calliham that mar 22 Aug 1787 in Pittsylvania
Co Va. He died in Washington/Smyth Co Va after 1810. He mar a Wilmoth
Russell. Any info appreciated.

Happy New Year to all of the Callaghan kinsmen. I have particular
interest in the Callaghans of Jackson County, Ohio. My grandmother, Jenny
Callaghan McCullough, was born in 1870 in Jackson County Jenny's parents
were Civil War vet William A. Callaghan and his wife Mary Jane. Jenny's
grandfather was Benjamin Callaghan, her g-grandfather was John Callaghan.
Patrick D. Callahan had stated some facts about the immigrant John Davis
O'Callaghan and his spouse Margaret Hutchinson. Any additional info on the
early Callaghans would be greatly appreciated. Dennis McCullough

Frank,
John Davis O'Callaghan (some question about the Davis) came to the states around 1800 from County Cork, Ireland. He and his bride,
Margaret Hutchison settled in Jackson County, Ohio where he died 4 Sep 1839.
May or may not be of any help but they had a great, great granddaughter Mary Electa Callahan, born 4 Mar 1863, Putnam County, Indiana,
to Andrew Jackson Callahan and Ruith Ann Votaw.
Happy New Year, Pat Callahan

Hi Pat,
So nice of you to respond so quickly.
I don't see a match from the info you gave me...but you never know when such
might connect. Thanks.
Good luck in your quest in 1999. Frank
Hello Ron ,
Happy New Year to you and all the Callahans.
Sounds like you have been pretty successful ....Is there perhaps a Mary Ellen
or an Ellen Callahan in your line who may have gone over to the states to NY
area? She married my ggrandfather the elusive Michael TOBIN.
Mary Ellen would have been born ca 1840...it's possible her parents and she
could have been born in the states too. Did any of your Callahans come to the
states from the late 100's through 1850's? Go raibh maith agat (thank you)
for your help. Frank
