Hello Simon and Julie,
What a buzz it was to see your email entitled 'Researching Phillip
Callaghan', BUT as you no doubt know family history research has many
blind
alleys and regretably I dont think I can be of much help to you.
My great great gradfather's name was Phillip Callaghan, he came from
the
townland of Altoaghan in Co. Fermanagh and my Callaghans seem to have
lived
in this area for centuries, I have them back to 1789/90, but beleive
they
lived there for much longer, there are Callaghan graves nearby where
the
deceased was born in 1640/60.
Phillip married Ellen Green (date unknown but probably between 1810 and
1820) Nothing is known of their family, except that one of their
children,
Michael migrated to Australia in 1865 and married here and I descend
from
that family. You may not know that prior to 1640ish the area around
the
present town of Fivemiletown (on the Fermanagh/Tyrone border) was know
as
Liscallaghan (Callaghans Fort) and was named after the family who lived
there. I believe that pre Cromwell the Callaghan clan were 'upper
middle
class' landowners.
I presume that you have obtained your info on your Callaghans from the
Clyde
Company papers, is this correct,
I had a look at them a couple of years ago but didnt pursue them to
hard
when I could see any direct link to my mob.
Do you know if your Phillip died in Australia, if you think that he may
have
returned to Ireland, I have an Irish death certificate for a Phillip
Callaghan (not connected to my line)in a miscelleanous file somewhere
and I
could probably find it and post a copy to you, if you think it might be
helpful.
Please let me know if any of this rings any bells with you

Does anyone have any information on a Thomas A. Callahan born July 29, 1879 or
1880 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents were both born in Michigan but
their parents were born in Ireland. He later resided in Charlestown,
Massachutts and was married to Annie Nosworthy of St. John"s, Newfoundland.
They had a son William Herbert Callahan born October 7, 1905. Thomas was my
grandfather andWilliam was my father.
Thank you for any help .

Am seeking information about my great great grandfather, Henry O'Callaghan.
His son Henry was an apprenticed sailor in 1849 and deserted ship in
Lyttelton harbour New Zealand in May 1855. He lost the g when changing
ships in Bombay.
A Henry O'C died in the prescence of his wife Mary at Richmond hill Cork in
1864 having been a classical teacher at St Vincents seminary. There was
also a Henry at Trinity college Dublin from 1826 aged 16 and graduating
B.A. in 1831.
They may have been the same. Any information would be appreciated
Ron O'Callahan.
This book is for sale on GEN-MAT-15 from Digest V98 #556. Thought some of
