Hi fellow Callahan researchers. I am looking for any info on my
Callahan roots.
I have a John Callahan [who doesn't :-)] born Octoer 31, 1805 in
Tennessee He married a Celia (Sela) Bailey date unknown who was born
September 25, 1806.
The had the following children:
Elizabeth (Betsy) b. 1830 in Tennessee
Mary b. 1832 in Illinois
Martin VanBuren b. 1833 in Illinois
William A. b. 1835 in Illinois
Thomas b. 1838 in Illinois
John b. 1840 in Illinois
Joseph b. 1842 in Illinois
Bailey b. 1846 in Illinois
James Monroe b. 1848 in Missouri
John and Celia came by covered wagon to Sullivan County, Missouri near
Scottsville close to West Locust Creek. Their first home was two miles
south of Scottsville near the old Smith schoolhouse.
John died May 5, 1890 and Celia died November 28, 1892 both of them in
Sullivan County, Missouri. They are both buried in Campground Cemetery
in Osgood, MO.
Any leads from here on back would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Marla Kile

Dear Callahan Rooters:
My Callahans were from County Leitrim. Upper Drumreilly. In Ireland, their
name in Ireland was Kellagher, but it became Callahan when they arrived in
Philadelphia. They lived on Vineyard Street. My ggm and gm were domestics on
the Philadelphia Mainline. At one point my ggm lived in Haverford. They names
were: Bridget Callahan, Michael, Annie, Margaret. My mggm married John
Condrick. My great grand aunt was Mary Callahan (Sr. M. Valeria, a Sister of
St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill).
Have other rooters found the same change in name to Callahan? Would be glad to
find additional information on this branch of Callahans.

Before I start with what I know, I have in my possession, a letter from St.
James' Church, Carracastle, Ballaghadereen, Co. Roscommon, giving the details
of a birth of Mary CALLAGHAN, daughter of Bart CALLAGHAN and Peggy GALLAGHER.
As i do not believe that she is my Mary CALLAGHAN, if she is yours, please let
me know.
I am looking for a Mary CALLAGHAN born 1857-1861. Per the Irish census 1901,
she was born in Co. Mayo. She died June 2, 1946 in Curry, Co. Sligo. It is
probable that she had brothers Michael, James and Edward. Michael was born in
Roosky in Ireland. Not sure yet what county that is as it apparently
straddles two counties.
Mary CALLAGHAN married James BRENNAN and they had nine children, Thomas,
Margaret Agnes, Mary Anne, Catherine, James Joseph, Bernard, John J., Ellen
"Ella", Honoria "Nora".
Michael CALLAGHAN married Bridget WALSH and they had four children, Michael,
Catherine, Winifred and Ann.
James CALLAGHAN married ? and had four children, names unknown.
Don't know whether Edward CALLAGHAN married or if there were any other
siblings as of yet.
Michael CALLAGHAN and Bridget WALSH's son, Michael, married Ellen FEELY and
they had five children, Bridie, Michael, Kathleen, Peggy and ?
Some of these CALLAGHAN's are still in Co. Sligo, some are in the U.S. Would
like to track them all down, of course. Thanks for "listening." Hope the
roll call helps us all find someone!
