Hi everyone,
I'm just sending this out as a general warning, but ask that this NOT be
discussed on the list.
As you've undoubtedly seen on the news, there are several vir*ses and worms
circulating at the present and they are causing some trouble. There are three
of them that are a big threat. You can familiarize yourself with them at the
Symantec website:

It's very important that you adhere to the following:
1. Please make sure you have the latest definitions on your anti-vir*s
software. If you don't have vir*s protection, you can download a pretty good one
for free at:
<A
HREF="http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php">http://www.gri...
2. If you're running Windows, please be sure to download a security patch.
You can learn more about these patches and how to obtain them, from the
Symantec website.
3. NEVER open an email with an attachment unless you are expecting it.
4. Vir*ses often spoof the 'return address'. They may grab email addresses
from your online address book or from mail that you've read and saved. It is
*not* possible to receive an email from a Rootsweb request address (except for
sub and unsub notices) or from a Rootsweb List admin address. An example of
the admin address would be:
CALLAGHAN-admin(a)rootsweb.com
We are unable to send mail from these two email addresses. So if you receive
an email from either of the two and the subject line does not refer to a sub
or unsub on your part, PLEASE delete it without opening. It is a vir*s.
5. It is *not* possible to receive an email sent through any Rootsweb list
that contains an attachment. All attachments are automatically stripped by the
Rootsweb server. (One exception to this, are those little tiny e-business
cards that you can attach to your email. However, they only run about 500 bytes
at most.)
If you receive an email that appears to be from a Rootsweb list and it
contains an attachment, PLEASE delete it without opening.
If you require expert advise on vir*ses or vir*s removal, then please feel
free to subscribe to the Vir*s Discussion List. Here is the webpage for the
list:

They are running rampant on many Rootsweb lists and I want to make sure that
you're all protected.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me off-list.
Thank-you again for not discussing this on the list.
Take care,
Tracy
