Jerry (and Evelyn with whom I've corresponded before): We are cousins, as is Evelyn
and several others who have posted on this board in the past, including Virginia Clark.
There are two possibilities re your direct ancestors. The first and easiest is that the
"Martin" you refer to may have been my grandfather Cormack's brother. This
Martin would have been born appx. 10/08/1877 and, in addition to his brother Cormack (b.
9/16/1879) who married Margaret M. Sharkey, he would have other siblings named John,
Patrick and Mary. His father would have been another "Cormack" Callaghan, born
1846. The second possibility gets confusing. My grandmother Margaret Sharkey was also a
Callaghan on her mother's side. She was the daughter of another Cormack, b. 1811 who
married a Mary Corcoran. So far, I can't can't find a relationship to the other
Cormack Callaghan mentioned above, but I suspect it exists somewhere pre- or early
1800's. This "Sharkey-Callaghan" line, as I call it, !
shows the 1811 Cormack with a brother (or may be a cousin) b. appx. 1795. To make it all
the more confusing, the name "Martin" comes up on both Callaghan sides of my
respective grandparents. I've probably written too much already. Want to chat
