STRICKEN ON THE
STREET
Dennis P Callaghan dies of apoplexy in front of hospital.
Stricken with apoplexy while on the way to work yesterday, Dennis P Callaghan, of 328 D St
southeast, fell to the pavement in fron of the Providence Hospital and died almost
instantly. Hospital surgeons were beside the man in a few minutes, but he was beyond
their aid.
The decease was employed as assistant foreman of painters under Capt Sewell, at the War
College, and hewas on the way to the Washington Barracks when he fell. He was regarded as
one of the most expert grainers in the force of government painters. Callaghan was
forty-five years old, and resided at the D street home ever since his birth. He is
survived by his wife and five children. John T Callaghan of the Post Office Department,
and Daniel O'C Callaghan, attorney-at-law, are his brothers. The funeral will be held
Thursday; services in St Peter's church, and interment in the family burial ground in
Mt Olivet cemetery.
