Hi Kelvin,
Read your post about a Hugh Callaghan and wondered if you had any luck?
I have Callaghans' on my maternal grandmother's side of the family. Edward
Callaghan born c1811 in Armagh (don't know where though) came to Scotland with his
wife Maria Boyle (also born c1811 in Armagh) in the late 1830s with their daughter
Margaret.
He was an ironstone miner, in Lanarkshire. On his son Matthew's wedding cert, he was
called Hugh. I wonder if that was Edward's father's name, and if Edward had it as
part of his name? There may be a family connection somewhere.
I have had a difficult job tracing this side of the family because of all the spellings of
their name on various Scottish cesuses - Calloahin, Calligan, Kelligan, Kellachan etc
