Hi Tracy,
Sorry! I think I just sent the note I was in the process of typing. I have
been observing several lists to see how they work, but this is the first time
I have tried to post. My great-great grandparents, Eugene RIORDAN ( - died
1868) and Mary CALLAGHAN ( - died 1878) had 10 children near Islandbrack,
Boherbue, Cork, Ireland. Patrick stayed with them on the farm. Honorah and
Kate became nuns in Australia. Eugene became a lawyer in Chicago and William
E., David, Julia, John, and Mary Anne, my great-grandmother, ended up in the
small northwestern Minnesota town of Morris. Most of my time has been spent
searching for my RIORDANS and for my great-grandfather, John CAREY. Along
the way, I have picked up a few likely CALLAGHANS to research later. In this
tiny railroad town, 5 CALLAGHAN are buried in the Calvary Catholic cemetery,
near where my great-grandparents are buried.
Charles CALLAGHAN 1894 - 7 Sept 1894
Christina CALLAGHAN - 4 Jan 1894
Eugene CALLAGHAN - 15 Dec 1936
James CALLAGHAN - 22 April 1930
Thomas CALLAGHAN - 11 March 1896
Mary RIORDAN and John CAREY were married in 1874 and began to raise a family
in Minneapolis. They went to the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception
and to St Anthony of Padua. The St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery lists the
following from 1851-1995
May CALLAGHAN 1890- 23 May 1892
and 28 folks named CALLAHAN.
I have seen my great-great-grandmother's name spelled both ways. Are the
spellings generally interchangable? I also have lists of CALLAGHANS and
CALLAHANS from Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul, MN 1854-1896 and from the
Minneapolis and St. Paul City directories for 1876 if anyone would like them
listed.
Thanks, Tracy, for your interest and help! Nice to meet you and your
CALLAGHANS!
