I am seeking information on the decendants of Charles and Catherine
Callaghan of Parish Tyholland, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. The following
family arrived in New York on the ship "Enterprise" from Liverpool, May
25, 1853 as reported in ships manifest:
Cath. Calligan age 45 (Catherine)
Mary " 27
John " 16
Barney " 12 Bernard was my ggfather
Kitty " 10 (name is probably Catherine)
Pat. " 8 (Patrick)
Thomas " 6
Bernard enlisted in the US Navy in Boston and served aboard the USS
"Aries" and USS "Ohio" as a landsman (seaman recruit) during the
Civil
War. (Jul 1863-Jul 1864)
Thomas also was in the US Navy and served abord the USS Pequot as a
landsman.
Have been unable to locate any of the rest of the family as yet.
Bernard Callahan married Mary Ann Loughran Apr 8, 1866 in New York
Bernard, Mary Ann and two children, Margaret and Cornelius H. living ED
16, Union Twp, Bergan Co., New Jersey in 1880 census.
Margaret and her family were living with her parents at 532 DeGraw St,
Brooklyn in the1900 census. Margaret married my grandfather, Francis
Ross McMahon
I am especially interested in finding Charles Callaghan. It is possible
he may have preceeded the family in order to get established (job, home,
etc.). I have no proof of this but a Charles Callaghan was a passenger
aboard the "Sir Henry Pottinger" from Belfast to New York arriving Mar
1, 1850. If any of this is familiar to anyone on the list please
contact me.
