Hello again,
Thankyou so much for this reply, you have found more than I have managed, I didnt know he
had a connection with mayor Arnold.I am in fact part of the team that is doing the
recording project so I know of Arnold and his importance locally. I guess as you have been
to Gravesend you will already have taken a photo of the grave, but please let me know if
not and I will send you one. The newspaper report of his death dosn't tell you very
much, but I could send you a scan if you like. Have you been in touch with the cemetery
office? The manager is very helpful with enquiries from relatives and there might be
something interesting in his burial record. According to a "snippet view" on
Google books there is a biography of Callaghan in "Handbook of contemporary
biography" By Frederick Martin, published by Macmillan, 1870, but I couldn't get
it from my local library, perhaps you will be luckier? If I can find enough out about him
I would like to write a short biography for use in the !
cemeteries open days, I dont suppose you have managed to find a picture of him?
I'm afraid that is all I can add at the moment, but I will let you know if I find
anything else and would be most grateful if you were willing to share anyting else you
find, he obviously had an eventful life.
Best Wishes, James Stevens
