Message Board Post:
I am researching Jeremiah Thomas Fitzgerald Callaghan sometimes just referred to as Thomas
Callaghan. He came from Midleton, County Cork and was born about 1831.
He joined the British Colonial Service and became Chief Margistrate in Hong Kong in 1860,
Governor of the Gambia, Governor of Labuan, Governor of the Falkand Islands and then for a
very short time Governor of the Barbados. He was born about 1832 and died in New York on
his way back to UK on the 10th July 1881.
You would think that there would be no problem in being able to find out about someone
with such an illustrious career but all I can find are the bare essentials - i.e. dates
when he was Governor etc.
If anyone can help me with further information i.e. name of his wife, parents or other
details of this man's life I would be so grateful - I am getting desperate!
