Is anybody able to help to point me in the right direction re finding my
famly please!
My father, John Edward Callaghan and his two brothers were born in the UK,
firstborn 1906. Their Catholic parents emigrated to the UK. He was from Cork
City, she from County Cork, "near Blarney".
From my father's birth certificate I therefore have the names, maiden name,
and London address of my grandparents.
They do not appear at that address in the 1901 UK census.
That is all I know! I can only assume that my grandparents therefore
probably married in 1904, 05 or 06, and probably in Ireland.
I recently found a postcard from my (I think) my grandfather, sent to an
address in Cork, to a "Mrs Callaghan". It is therefore possible that the
recipient was my grandfather's mother, perhaps therefore giving me my
grandfather's
place of residence before leaving Cork.
It seems that the address falls inside the Parish of St Patrick's.
My grandfather died in London aged 58 in Sep 1928. His year of birth can
therefore be either 1870 or 1869, day/month unknown.
I assume that his marriage would have taken place at his wife's parish...
"near Blarney"!
With such scanty information I cannot approach a Parish Priest to hunt
through registers...
Does anyone have any knowledge of how/where to begin a search?
Help!
Many thanks!
Julia Callaghan
