There's a possibility that my Callahan's are connected but I'm not sure. I
have an obituary of my g-g-grandmother Mary McElroy Callahan and it states
that she was born in the Parish of Clonallen, County Down.....I just did a Google
search and I believe that Dromore is a Diocese and Clonallen is in the
Diocese of Dromore.
Her husband was Patrick Callahan who I assume was also born in County Down.
He was born in the late 1820s. His father, however, was Charles Callahan and
his mother was Catherine Byrnes.
Patrick had a son Patrick (my g-grandfather) and also had a son George and
Charles and this Patrick also named two of his sons George and Charles.
So.......there is possibly a connection ---- George ---- and County Down ---
but I'm not sure what the connection would be......I doubt there were many
Callahan families in County Down as most were from the Republic of Ireland not
Northern Ireland.
Anyway, my Callahans --- Patrick who married Mary McElroy came to the US in
the 1850s and settled in Brooklyn New York but I believe first came to Rhode
Island for a brief period.
