James "Roy"
Mr. James Roy Callaghan, age 82 of Newark, Ohio. passed peacefully on Monday, March 31,
2014 at OSU Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born to the late Helen (Anderson) and Eugene Callaghan on September 13, 1931 in
Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Roy served as a sergeant in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After the war he received his Bachelor's Degree from Park College.
He retired from the Newark Air Force base as Director of Plans and Programs.
During his retirement, Roy served as a board member of the Newark AARP and was president
of the Licking County Caring for Caregivers Council.
He also enjoyed fishing and camping and had a deep connection with his many dog
companions.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Jean Callaghan and Kathryn Callaghan, and
stepchildren, Shirley Deal and Rhonda Foreman.
Roy is survived by five stepchildren: Scott (Sue) Holland of Salem, Virginia, John (Deb)
Holland of Renfrew, PA, Sonja (Don) Coble of Athens, Ohio, Sherri Thomas of Columbus, and
Sheila Winland of Columbus.
He is also survived by Tammra (Brian) Southern of Newark, Nelson (Beth) Hill of Newark,
and nine other grandchildren.
He has three great grandchildren.
Funeral service for James Roy Callaghan will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 4, 2014 at
Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home 985 N 21st Street, Newark with military honors rendered by
Licking County Veterans Alliance.
The family will receive friends and acquaintances beginning at 11:00am Friday at the
funeral home.
Interment will take place 2:00 P.M. Monday at Newark Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Central Oho
(the Selma Markowitz Center) 1169 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
