The first records in the mid 1800's I have of my Callahan's the name was
Callaghan. As the years went by they dropped the g. I don't have a clue why
but it was consistent then in all records starting about 1870, this was in
Brooklyn NY. Maureen

Subject: [CALLAGHAN] Names changes
It appears that all Callaghans in the US are spelt Callahan. Does
anyone
know why this is and if there is any consistancy to where the various
spellings originate (eg Callaghan, Calligan, Callahan etc) or is it just
down to transcription error?
