Chellis H. Call

Chellis H. Call, 79, of Centerwood Drive died Monday after a period of failing
health. He was born in Chichester, the son of Bryant and Della (Griffin) Call.
He graduated from Concord High School in 1941. He served in the military
during World War II in China, Burma and India and during the Korean War as
an artillery officer in the 40th Infantry Division. He retired as a colonel in the
New Hampshire Army National Guard after more than 30 years of service.
Call worked with the New Hampshire Board of Underwriters in 1946 before
serving as vice president and secretary of the insurance firm of Morrill and
Everett Inc. in 1948. He served as past president of the Independent Insurance
Agents of New Hampshire, Independent insurance Agents of Concord, the
Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and Concord Kiwanis Club; as vice
chairman of the New House Representatives Insurance Committee in 1947
and in the state House of Representatives from 1967 to 1978; and as director
of Concord Regional Development Corporation, the Concord Chapter
American Red Cross, Swift Water Girl Scout Council and the former Concord
Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of all Masonic
organizations, the VFW, the American Legion, Concord Lodge of Elks and
the New Hampshire 100 Club. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eleanor
(McLaren) Call; a son, Douglas Call of Incline Village, Nev.; five daughters,
Linda Couch of Chichester, Cynthia Gaston of Concord, Pamela Phillips of
Lancaster, Susan Pomeroy of Eugene, Ore., and Jacquelyn Allin of Marathon,
Fla.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Calling hours will not be
held. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association,
9 Cedarwood Drive, Unit 12, Bedford 03110. Bennett Funeral Home in
Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are.
This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Call.
