Jay — Earl (Zip) Call, 86, formerly of the Carey Road, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the
Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, where he had been a resident for several years.
Earl was born May 12, 1917, in Jay, the son of Walter and Ethel (Sheldon) Call.
Zip was employed for several years at the Lake Placid Granite Company, AuSable Forks. He
also was a handyman for several private residences.
He enjoyed riding his bike. Zip just enjoyed life itself. He was a highly respected man in
the community. He was a thoughtful son, brother and uncle.
Earl is survived by a sister, Marion Crowningshield of Jay; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers, Marcel Call, Arthur Call, Joseph Call,
Kenneth Call and Charles Call; also two sisters, Mary Crowningshield and Nellie Bruce.
Calling hours will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral
Home.
Funeral services will follow the calling hours and will be held at 2 p.m. at the Jay
Baptist Church, Jay, with the Rev. Joyce Bruce officiating. Burial will be in the family
plot at Jay Central Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials to him may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
