Mel, Your father, grandparents, and husband for this Sarah Calkins are correct. To my
knowledge, there is no evidence, let alone proof, that Hugh Calkins' wife was named
Ann Eaton.
We know that Sarah's baptismal record has been found in the Waverton Parish, Cheshire,
England. She was baptized May 6, 1627. I have seen the birth and death dates you give
on the internet before, but have never been able to identify the source or find any real
evidence that these dates are correct. I don't think Sarah's birth and death
dates are really known.
William Hough was probably born in Chester, Cheshire, England around 1619. There is not
now, nor has there ever been, according to civil authorites there, a Westchester or West
Chester in Cheshire. The Westchester that is found all over the internet came from an
entry in the Saybrook, Connecticut Colony, land records by Samuel Hough, William and
Sarah's oldest son, where he said his grandfather was Edward Hough of of "West
Chester in Cheesshir". This entry was made on Feb. 4, 1702/3, when Samuel himself
was an relatively old man, his father had been dead for 20 years, and he had never met his
grandfather Edward. So the most likely thing is his father had told Samuel that he had
come from the west side of the city of Chester.
The date of William and Sarah's marriage is October 28, 1645 and it took place in
Gloucester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.
I have several Hough lines from Sarah and William Hough, and there are a couple of books
about their descendants.
Bill Hough
