Hello, While researching my DEXTER family this morning, and looking at the new 1880
Census at the LDS web site, I came across the family of Walter CALKING. Walter and Mary
CALKING were living in Canterbury, CT. This couple must have had a very large house,
as they had 5 sons, a mother-in-law, a grandson, and several miscellaneous people living
with them.
What I am interested in is the grandson, William C. DEXTER, Age 5. What is curious is
that one of the couples I am looking at: John and Myra DEXTER listed in the 1880 Census
as living nearby in Killingly, CT, had a son, William C. DEXTER, Age 5.
(There is no mention in the information on the CALKING family of them having a daughter
who might have given birth to William DEXTER.)
The couple I am looking for is: John DEXTER and his wife, the former Mary Anna CLARKE,
who were both born in 1837. John was born in Killingly, CT, and Mary was born in
Westport, MA. They seem to have lived in both towns during the 1870's and
1880's.
