Golden Wedding Celebrated by Adams Couple
Watertown Daily Standard
September 24, 1923
Adams, Sept 24 - Mr and Mrs Lindley G Caulkins of Lorranie were surprised Friday afternoon
when neighbors and friends began to arrive with well filled baskets to assist them in
celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The surprise had been arranged by their
daughter, Mrs. Lottie Bunce of Adams and not until Mr and Mrs Bunce arrived with a basket
of extra dishes and table linen did Mrs Caulkins realize what the visitation meant.
After the many greetings and some time spent in reminiscences a three course dinner was
served at 5 o'clock to about 75 guests. The rooms and tables were prettily decorated
with bouquets of gladioli and asters and good cheer abounded on every hand. As a memento
of the occasion the bride and groom of 50 years ago were presented with a purse of gold
from their children, another from other relatives and friends, with numerous other gifts.
Mr Caulkins has reached the age of 79 and his wife is 64.
Married When 14
Mr Calkins was born and has always lived in the town of Lorraine. His wife was Miss
Elizabeth Leepy, daughter of Mr and Mrs Nicholas Leepy and was born at Alexandria Bay.
While she was still small, her family moved to Worth where she grew up and became
acquainted with her future husband, whom she married at the age of 14, the ceremony taking
place at the home of her parents, Justice Solomon Stears officiating. Mr and Mrs Caulkins
have four children and two grandchildren all of whom were at the anniversary last Friday.
They are Mrs Vernon Bunce of Adams, and Stephen, Oren, and Mervin Caulkins, all of
Lorraine, and Oren's two sons, Carlton and Howland. (a list of guests follows)
Mr and Mrs Caulkins are identified with the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Grange at
Lorraine.
