I am hoping someone can help me. I think I might have figured out who my GGrandmothers,
Laura Ann Calkins, family is. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
It looks like Stephen was the son of Calvin Calkins. And may be the father of Laura Ann
Calkins.
In the 1850 census Stephen was abt. 14 years old living in Norwalk, Ohio. His father
Calvin born 1803 and mother Mary Ann born 1804.
His siblings were
Hannah b. 1826 MA
William b. 1828 MA
Hiram b. 1830 MA
Josiah b. 1832 N Y
Ebenezar b. 1840 OH
Another Wm b. 1829 N Y Has to be same Wm as above
Stephen b. 1836 NV
In the 1860 census Stephen was 26 years old living in Cass, Jones, Iowa. His father Calvin
born in 1803 and his mother May A. born 1803.
His siblings were
Hannah b. 1824 NY
Wm b. 1826 NY
Hiram b. 1829 NY
Arnold b. 1831 MA This has to be Josiah
Eber b. 1840 OH
Stephen b. 1835 NY
In the 1870 Census Cass, Jones, Iowa I see Stephen’s father Calvin but not his mother Mary
A. or Stephen. But I see his sister Hannah b.1826. It looks like Stephen has died or away
at war and a woman named Catharine who is the same age as Stephen is in the census with a
list of children. She is either Stephen’s wife or she could be Calvin’s second wife.
Laura A. b. 1858 Ia
Alponsa b. 1859 Ia
Nancy b. 1863 Il
Oliver b. 1866 Ia
Calvin b. 1869 Ia
It also shows Calvin’s son Ebenezer married to Nancy living in Cass, Jones, Iowa and has
the following children
Addison b. 1864 Ia
Calvin b. 1866 Ia
Meta b. 1869 Ia
Is the mystery of finding Laura Ann Calkins, that her Father, Stephen had died and her
Grandparents, Calvin and Mary raised her. The area and times are all adding up!!
Thank you, Cathy Gannon
