Dear Suzanne,
I am enjoying finding family on the Internet as well. Boy would I love to see some of
what is in Mrs. Turney Sharp’s book. I’ll need to check some library sources. My
mother once mentioned that there was a book of the Calkins genealogy.
I’d prefer sending info on living relations to you personally, if you could forward your
e-mail to me I’ll try to get things together.
I’m still looking over Cliff and Sylvia’s messages trying locate all of the conflicts
that exist in them and then look for clarification. For instance Cliff lists Erwin as
Ervin with a birth date of 15 July, while Sylvia lists both spellings and a birth date of
16 July 1803.
What I have:
Riley (Anson) Calkins (this is Erwin’s brother) born 1822 Orleans, Jefferson, NY. m Mary
Ann House abt 1864 possibly May 1 in Jones Iowa.
The only child I have for them is Marcellus A.; no birth date; m 15 Oct 1872 to Elizabeth
CORY in Yusculum, Dickinson, Iowa.
Marcellus’ children include: Samuel Albert, William Eugene, Hattie, Charles Albert, and
Riley (I have an impression that this Riley might be Marcellus’ father not son I’ll have
to do some double checking).
I am descended from Samuel Albert who married Gertrude Louisa BROWN. They had 10 children
my mother being the ninth. Gertrude died just a few months after her youngest was born; my
mother was then three. Both the baby and my mother were given to other families to raise.
My parents had three children and between us there are more
than 10 in the next generation.
Well this in probably a lot for one posting. Looking forward to hearing more from
you along with your e-mail. Mine is ddurfee(a)netzero.net
