Re: Calkins of New York,
I have a G grandfather named Asahel D. Calkin (b; 7-7-1833, Genessee Co. NY, m. Rhoda Ann
Radford 10-10-1855, Kalamazoo
Co. Mich and d. 12-21-1913 in Sioux City, Iowa). The only information I have about his
parents is his mother's name
might be Mary Wilcot. I also have a lead on both an Albert Calkins and a Lorenzo Calkins
in the 1840 census of
Kalamazoo Co. Mich. plus an A. Calkins, Lorenzo, Catharine Asahel and Elsey Calkins in the
1850 census of the county.
My questions - since Asahel Calkin(s) is a rather unusual name - might there be a
connection, and do you have any other
information to have us find our link?
Thanks, Jerry Fry

My ancestor, Seth Calkins married Nancy Holmes. They
had a son Marcellus who married a Hattie; Seth also had
a son named Riley who married a Harriet and another
son William who married a Mary. They were residents of
Perch River, Town of Brownville, Jefferson Co. NY. I don't
think Seth and Nancy had a son Charles Albert.
Another interesting fact: My daughter , Mrs. Larry
Coolidge Knight (Marianne) lives on Bainbridge Island,
Washington. Used to be on Sunrise Drive, N. E. but I
think it was changed to Sunrise Bluff. Not far from where
the ferry docks at Winslow.
