*LATEST CALKINS DNA UPDATE 7/15/06*
* *
"The Mystery Deepens"
I have the following to report concerning latest DNA test results
Six Calkins results validates our documentation of a, MRCA (Most recent
common ancestor). That person being: Rowland Calkin/Calken, Calkins, Hugh's
father.
Another thing these six share is they belong to the same Haplogroup. *R1b1*
The probability of the other three being descendants of Rowland are
miniscule
One belongs to Haplogroup *R1b1*
One belongs to Haplogroup *J*
One belongs to Haplogroup *I***
There are several answers to the reason for these differences.
1. An adoption took place somewhere in their respective lines
2. Sometime in the past another, unknown to us, "Calkins" immigrant
came to America.
It may not be scientific but I choose adoption. Especially when one takes
into consideration the well documented evidence these "Calkins" have in
their possession.
Was not too far in our past that children orphaned for one reason or another
were just taken into a family and raised as their own. They did not feel the
necessity of paperwork.
*Need more participants to help us make more connections*.
*What is a Haplogroup?*
One way to think about Haplogroup is as major branches on the family tree of
*Homo sapiens*. These Haplogroup branches characterize the early migrations
of population groups. As a result, haplogroups are usually associated with a
geographic region. If haplogroups are the branches of the tree then the
haplotypes represent the leaves of the tree. All of the haplotypes that
belong to a particular haplogroup are leaves on the same branch.
J. Haplogroup J is found at highest frequencies in Middle Eastern and North
African populations where it most likely evolved. This marker has been
carried by Middle Eastern traders into Europe, central Asia, India, and
Pakistan. The Cohen modal lineage is found in Haplogroup J*.
I. The I, I1, and I1a lineages are nearly completely restricted to
northwestern Europe. These would most likely have been common within Viking
populations. One lineage of this group extends down into central Europe.
R1b1. Haplogroup R1b1 is the most common haplogroup in European populations.
It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized
after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is
also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
We are still attempting to locate a Calkin, Calkins in England to
participate in our Project.
*Anyone out there have any contacts in the UK? *
I haven't posted this for several years......
Has anyone identified the names of the parents of Amy Calkins?
Amy married Obadiah Beardsley, Sr circa 1751, maybe in Connecticut. Amy was
born about 1730, place unkn, died 1814, Richfield Springs, Otsego County,
New York.
