Searching for parents of Hiram Albert Calkins, November 1836, Sand Lake, New York. The
1850 census shows his mother is Mary, born about 1800, an older sister, Sarah Ann Calkins,
married 1847 in Sand Lake, to Philip Binck/Bink/Pink/Binks. ( I've found his name
spelled four different ways. ) Hiram had a younger sister named Mary E., a brother named
John A., a brother with the initials D.E., and one with the initials M.W. They moved to
California by the 1860 census. Philip Binck went into the Civil War as a Union soldier,
and I think some of the Calkins brothers did, too, because there are some matching
initials. Sarah died in California in 1862, and had two children with Philip Binck. John
(possibly Josiah?) A. and Hiram Albert stayed in California. Found the ship records for
some of them, but can't find the father! Hiram Albert Calkins later moved to Arizona
and homesteaded the ranch where my parents still ranch. I am his
great-great-granddaughter. There are many Ca!
lkins in Sand Lake during this time, and I know his father has to be one of them, but
which one? Thank you for any help you may offer!
