Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County)
Nov 17, 1905
CALKINS--In Longmont, Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, 1905, of typhoid fever, Archie S.
Calkins, aged 26 years.
Another of Longmont's young men, (the fourth in less than that number of weeks) has
been called from this life to a better one. Archie had been in a critical condition for
several days, but hopes were entertained that he might ultimately recover. His mother had
been sent for and had started for Colorado from the old home in Saratoga Co, N. Y., and is
expected to reach Denver Thursday evening. Hence the remains will be kept until her
arrival Friday morning to determine whether they will be sent east of interred here.
Archie S. Calk, ins, son of Herbert V. Calkins, was born in Saratoga Co. N. Y., and
remained on the old farm until 1908, when he came to Colorado putting in most of his time
in the sugar factory, as one of the division foremen. He was the nephew of of C.C.
Calkins of this city.
In character he was one of the most examplary of young men and we cannot speak too highly
of his Christian character. Always genial and kindly to his friends and acquaintances it
was a pleasure to meet and know him. One brother was has preceded him, and he is the last
son of his parents, who had counted so much on what Archie was to do and be.
There is one sister about 14 years of age living, as well as both of his parents.
