I have a Corkins Hayes in my family. I suspect his mother was a calkins/corkins. Her first
name is Sarah born abt 1765 in CT. Probably around Hartford County, CT. She married
Benajah Hayes who was born 1761 in Simsbury, Hartford, Ct and fought in Rev. War. some
people have her listed as a Corey but I have done alot of research and can't find her
in the Corey tree. I think people got the idea she was a Corey due to F.W. Beers book
History of Allegany County,New York. It states that Joseph Corey sold his grist mill to
his son-in-law, Benajah Hayes. However this is Benajah Truman Hayes (son of Benajah
Hayes). Benajah Truman Hayes married Fanny Corey (his 2nd wife). Benajah and Sarah ? Hayes
moved from Allegany County, NY to Washington County, Ohio in about 1840. I believe Corkins
Hayes was named after his mother who was a Calkins/Corkins. Can anyone point me in the
right direction to my theory she is a Calkins/Corkins
