Subject: Re: [Calhoun] Calhoun's in GA
I am looking for any connections to a Calhoun family from a Morgan family in
mid 1800's GA. There may also be connections through Martin or Robinson or
even Morris families (also of Georgia USA abt 1800- 1860.)
I was told that my Sarah Frances ____ who married Robinson, was last name
Calhoun.
We know that she was born 1830 in Jasper Co GA, and in 1848 Jasper Co
married William C. Robinson who was a planter physician and born 1824 in
Jasper County GA. After his death in 1858 she married a "business partner"
of his named Allen P Morris and moved to Winn Parrish LA.
I do not have a maiden name of Calhoun in the Robinson family anywhere close
by in William Robinson's direct line that I have found so far.
I have not been able to find parents or family members for Allen P Morris
and do not know if there are connections to Calhoun family.
We have discovered that Sarah's maiden name was in fact Morgan (from
marriage info and census records.) I have found that she has a
brother/cousin or other relative named Asa Morgan who lived with them in
1850 Jasper Co Ga.
Sarah, her husband William, daughter Mary C Robinson also included in their
household an Elizabeth Martin who may have been a friend, relative, or
servant in 1850 Jasper CO GA.
If Asa Morgan who was also born in 1830 GA, was Sarah's brother, then their
probable father was a Hiram Morgan of Talbot Co GA. I do not have the maiden
name of the Morgan family mother, or any knowledge of Morgan family
connections.
I am trying to find out where the very, very, strong
Calhoun-as-Sarah's-maiden-name story, which several of my Robinson family
descendant branches have knowledge and lore of, came to be. I was also told
that two of her daughters had the name Calhoun as their middle names. One of
the daughters "Mary" is recognized with a "C" middle name until after
1880
when she lists her middle name as Louise. The youngest daughter is Emma C
Robinson, who married Brandon, who presumably has a middle name of "Calhoun"
as far as we know. No one has found any middle name meaning for the Robinson
father William C or for his daughter Emma C., other than the presumed
Calhoun as written in family Bibles, etc.
Anyone have any ideas where these families may connect up with Calhouns in
GA or even in LA?
Appreciate any help,
Diane
