You don't need the markers for ancestry. The entire list of matches are those people
who you are related to somewhere within 10 generations. The task is to figure out how you
related to each of them. Ancestry compares your tree with trees of those with whom you
have a DNA match. If they find a name in your tree that matches a person in the tree of
someone who is a DNA match for you, then they provide a leaf (hint). Those matches that
have leaves will show you how you are related. If you are a DNA match with someone whose
tree does not have a person that matches a person in your tree, then it is between you and
the person with whom you match to figure out how you are related. That's where common
surnames and birth locations (shown as pins on the map) become useful.
The training videos are very helpful as you try to figure out how to make good use of the
info they provide. If you haven't found those videos, you can get to them from your
ancestry home page at the very bottom of the page.
Hope this helps. I've found the DNA process to be incredibly useful and have
communicated with numerous distant cousins.
