HOWARD CALHOUN, RESIDENT HERE 60 YEARS, DIES
Howard H. Calhoun, 93, Helena [Lewis & Clark County] resident for the past 60 years,
died Wednesday evening [29 July 1953] at his home at 217 Stewart Homes following an
illness of several months.
Born Jan. 29, 1860, in Rock Island, Ill., he attended school there and later moved to St.
Paul, Minn., where he became a fireman for the Northern Pacific railway.
He was transferred to Helena by Northern Pacific in 1893, working for the railroad until
1922, when he became a painter, being employed by various Helena contractors.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Calhoun and Marguerite Carbis; four grandchildren,
Claudie Creel and Joan, Mary and Bud Carbis, and a great-granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth
Creel, all of Helena.
Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. George S. Morrell at Hagler chapel at 3:30
o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in Forestvale cemetery. Hagler mortuary
is in charge of the arrangements.

FUNERAL---Dr. George S. Morrell of St. Paul's Methodist church officiated at funeral
services at Hagler chapel this afternoon for Howard H. Calhoun, 93, Helena resident for 60
years, who died at his home at 217 Stewart Homes Wednesday evening. Pallbearers were R.D.
Tobin, Charles Baer, John Morgan, Dale Middleton, Don Creel and William Haynes. Burial was
in Forestvale cemetery. Hagler mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
