I re-read your post and want to run this by you.
I have 3 matches: CALHOUN, KAUFMAN CO.TX, ALABAMA
1) Curtis or Kurt CALHOUN was born about 1878ish in Kentucky.
2) He married Hattie Cooms, born 1880 in ALABAMA
3) They lived in KAUFMAN Co. TX at least as early as 1905 (oldest son
born then)
4) I have no explaination as to why they moved to TX but it was common
in those days to follow family.
It's a stretch but could our Calhoun's be related?
The only clues I have are: Maybe Texas Ranger, riverboat gambler, I know
they farmed and Curtis died about 1918 leaving a widow with 5 kids ages
14 to two.
