I searched the National Park Service's Civil War Soldiers and Sailors system database,
and found only one Thomas Calhoun from MO:
http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm
Calhoun, Thomas C., Union Infantry 32nd Regiment, Missouri Infantry
Searching just for Thomas Calhoun, Confederate, there are 17 matches. One can search for
prisoners, although the site says: "Civil War Prisons -- At this time, we have
records available from two Civil War Prisons. Choose to search the records and read about
the prison history.
Fort McHenry (Confederate Soldiers)

Andersonville (Union Soldiers)

You might want to google for "springfield civil war prison" and search some of
the sites that come up, too.
Best of luck,
