In a transcript of my 2nd gr grandfather's (Albert Quincy Porter of
Meadville, MS) Civil War Diary, at the end of the war, he mentions:
"May 13th (1865). We took the cars this morning and went to Abbeville,
arriving there at four o'clock P. M. and camped at the edge of town. We
left Abbeville about 2 o'clock on the 14th and marched ten miles in the
direction of Washington and camped at the home where Joseph C. Calhoun
was born. I went to the graveyard of his father's family. I saw a
toomstone there the following transcriptions:
Patrick Calhoun
The Father of
Catherine, William, James, John Calwell
& Patrick Calhoun
Born in the county of Donegal, Ireland
June 11, 1727 "
I just wanted to pass this info on.
