I visited Luss two years ago including the new Clan museum. They have some records, but
no specifics on which groups of Colquhouns/Calhouns went to America directly or which went
through Ireland. I know my family went through Ireland, as some of the members were born
in Crosh House (near Londonderry) before coming to the US in the 1700's. I asked where
the name Colquhoun came from, and no one really knows. It's what the land was called
and the clan chief took the name when he married Lady Luss. All part of the mystery of
history and genealogy.

There may be some confusion that the Calhoun's were Irish because our ancestors may
have sailed from Ireland. I've even seen indications there was some back and forth
to/from US/Ireland of at least one branch over several generations.
The clan originally comes from Scotland in an area around Luss on Loch Lomond (East of
Glasgow). I've visited and it is a beautiful place with a cemetery full of Colquehoun
tombstones. The clan Chief's house is now part of a private golf course.
The missing link is the date & record of transit to the US. If anyone finds that -
they have the golden ticket! Without it we have no way of knowing if we are actually
Calhoun/Colquehouns or just picked up the name somewhere in immigration.
