Hello!
I am trying to help Scotland County's Heritage Book. Right now they
are trying to get enough interest to put together a Heritage Book
like most of the other North Carolina counties.
Sam West who also has Scotland County Roots sent me this email
below. Do you think you could write a little something on your
ancestors? I am told that you don't have to purchase to submit.
Can you help out? We really want a book.

SCOTLAND COUNTY HERITAGE BOOK
==================================
SEEKING ARTICLES ON THOSE PEOPLE/FAMILIES THAT LIVED
IN THAT PART OF EASTERN RICHMOND COUNTY, THAT BECAME
SCOTLAND COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA IN 1899.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY! WE JUST DON'T WANT YOUR
ANCESTORS TO BE LEFT OUT!
Hi,
For those who would like to submit an article on
your Scotland County Ancestor(s), you now have a
until MARCH 31ST, 2003 to either mail, or e-mail
your article(s).
Do not let this opportunity slip by, and start
working on your article now! For all that our
ancestors have done for us before we were even
born, we really owe them a lasting tribute in this
book. We must remember, that if we don't write
an article for them, then it is likely that no
one will do it for us. We already have hundreds
of articles submitted, so don't let yours be left
out.
As long as the main subject of your article was
here in Scotland [formerly Richmond] County at
sometime during his/her life time [i.e., born,
died, married or resided], then you are eligible
to write about them. Remember, if your subject
ancestor was here after 1850 then you may submit
500 words and one photo free. If the subject
ancestor was here in 1850 or before, then you get
an additional 500 words and an extra photo,
making a total of 1000 words and two photo
submissions free. If your article is longer
than what is mentioned above, and/or if you
have extra, or enlarged photos you would like
to add, contact me and I will send you the
details.
All articles/stories must be in a flowing,
narrative form. Sorry, but the publisher
cannot publish any genealogical charts or
tabular materials. Please arrange your
article in the following manner.
Double-space
1) Title [List your main subject somewhere
in the title]
2) Article. [The body of the article itself]
3) Submitted by [name and address of submitter]
4) Sources [list briefly the major sources used,
i.e.: Scotland Co NC Deeds, Marriages,
Wills, Census Records, etc...]
5) Caption to photos [eight words max]
6) Word count [computer generated or actual = You
only count the words contained in 2)
the body of the article itself. Do not
include 1) Title, 3) Submitter],
4) Sources or 5) Caption to photos,
or 6) Word count]
Your article(s) may be just as elaborate, or just
as simple, as you want it. You can even go by an
obituary in compiling an article, just add birth,
death and marriage dates, tell where a little about
them, i.e. where they worked, their occupation,
their religious affiliation or military service,
etc... if known. The simpler you make it, the
better it will be. We are depending on the
descendants of each Scotland Co NC Ancestor to
write articles about their ancestors. Unfor-
tunately, if you don't write something up and
submit it on your ancestor(s), then no one else
will probably not submit anything either. Our
goal is to publish a great book on Scotland Co
NC families, but we cannot do it without you
participating and submitting articles on your
ancestor(s). We don't want any family left out,
but the final deadline is approaching fast!
You may submit your family story for publication
in this professionally printed high quality hard
bound book for free [see brochure for qualifi-
cations]. As you already know, only one Family
Article can be published under the free status.
But, where there is a, will then there is a way.
