I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as that of Sue HASKINS which
was
taken at the La Roche & Co. Studio in Des Moines, Iowa. The photograph
appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Sue likely in her 40's or 50's
at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written
"Mrs. BUTTER" on the back of the photograph as well, maybe the person to
whom the photograph was originally gifted.
Based on limited research I was able to locate some information regarding
Sue and her family as follows:
Susanna SIMONTON b. 11 Nov 1839 in Largo, IN to parents Jacob Simonton (b.
19 Jul 1810 in Lewisburg, OH) and Leah CALHOUN (b. 29 Oct 1812 in OH).
Susanna married Cornelius T. HASKINS (b. 1838 in NY) in IA in 1864. The
couple had two children, Nelly Susannah and Addie HASKINS.
Census records provide the following:
1870 census of Des Moines, IA:
C. F. HASKINS, age 32, Agent for Book Store, born NY
Sue HASKINS, age 30, born IN
Augusta HASKINS, age 21, born NY
Adda HASKINS, age 5, born IA
Nella HASKINS, age 5 months, born IA
F. THARBER, age 24, a Painter, born NY
Adda THARBER, age 18, born NY
1880 census of Lincoln, IA:

I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old
photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of
this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
