We have corresponded before and you have been a great help steering
me in the right direction with my Calhoun's. I have gotten a little
better at research this past 2 years and would like to roll something
by you. Looks like you have Calhoun's and some relations in Russell
Co. KY and have knowledge of both. My Calhoun's, it seems, lived near
or on the County line of Adair and Russell Co.'s KY.
What I know for sure: My brick wall is KIRT CALHOUN b. 1875
Adair/Russell Co. KY. moving to Garland, Dallas Co. TX about 1892 and
died in Kaufman Co. TX 1917. He married HATTIE COOMBS in Dallas Co.
about 1900ish. I have their children's names and from their on I know
for sure the kinship. I know that KIRT and GEORGE M. CALHOUN were
close in KY and in TX. (always seemed to live next door or close to
each other.) I also find George W. and Levi Calhoun living close.
After many dead ends, I have now narrowed it down to the correct
family in KY and TX but can't get the kinships completely sorted out
so that I can find KIRT's parents. The lead I am following now that
looks to be about 98% promising is: "KIRT CALHOUN' father was CHARLES
CALHOUN and mother BELLE.
The pedigree, as explained to me by an old timer who knew the family
is:
1PATRICK CALHOUN (from Ireland) (grandfather of J. C. CALHOUN vic
prez)
2 PATRICK JR.
2 JAMES
2 KATHRINE
2 WILLIAM
3 GEORGE W CALHOUN m. NETTIE CONOVER
4 WILLIAM LEVI CALHOUN b. 1839 d. 1873-1877, m. Eliza E.
Wolford
5 GEORGE MILTON CALHOUN b. 1865, m. Maggie Wolford
5 maybe Kirt Calhoun b.1875, but don't think so
(no Charles orCurtis/Kirtlisted as son in 1870-80 or1900 census)
5 LEE CALHOUN (William Levi Jr.)
6 LISA CALHOUN (still living in Russell Co. KY)
6 EARL CALHOUN
5GEORGE MILTON CALHOUN b.1865 m. Maggie Wolford
6 GEORGE A. CALHOUN
5 might place Charles here, (it is said that George
Milton Calhoun and KIRT Calhoun are "nephew and uncle" (but no
Charles or Kirt listed for 1870-80-1900 census.)
6 Kirt Calhoun b.1875
4 mightplace hereCHARLES CALHOUN (it is also said, "Charles
was Levi's brother." " Kirt and Ceorge M. are cousins.") but no
Charles or Curtis/Kirt found as a son of George W. Calhoun
5Kirt Calhounb. 1875
I have checked census for brother's of George W Calhoun and none have
a Charles or Kirt Calhoun or sons with close b. dates.
I have other random info on these families.
You have always been so eager to help me in the past, and given me
such good advice that I am hoping I can ask you one more time to give
me your opinion. Any act of kindness would be greatlly appreciated.
