We have a lot in common, both of us descended from a Duncan Calhoun who have married
Harper ladies. However my Duncan married Emily Harper. It seems that the Calhouns came
from NC to Copiah Co. MS then John, Hugh and Mary Calhoun Dean shows up in Lauderdale Co.
with your Duncan. They are all on the tax rolls for Laud. in 1835. I think my Duncan
along with Edward Harper's family moved to Kemper Co. MS. The Kemper Co. courthouse
burned down a long time ago along with court records that would have been helpful to us
all. There are several entries in the Lauderdale Co. Deed books that have your Duncan. I
believe he is listed in Book A pages 34, 93, 96, 429, 430, 431 and 438. On page 93 dated
Sep 1838, Elizabeth B. is named with Duncan. I'm not sure if she is listed on the
other pages. On pages 34 and 429 Duncan's name is recorded Duncan Calhoun President
of the Board of Police. In Book J page dated Dec 1855, land is being lease and Duncan
Calhoun President of the Boar!
d of Police is recorded. I was thinking that Duncan died before 1850 since Elizabeth and
children are in Copiah Co. without him. I think her parents (James A. and Mary
Harper)stayed in Copiah Co. so it would be understandable that she moves back to be with
family. There are other people researching your Duncan and James A. Calhoun. They have
posted queries and have signed in as silverwolf6000 and CYndi Sistrunk. I hope you are
corresponding with them. I wish I could be more helpful and if I do come across any more
information I will be glad to share it with you. And I hope you in turn will do the same
for me.
Thank you, Royce
