I am a descendant of Edward Augustus Hollister & Alice Calhoun, through their daughter
Ola Lydia.
Alice Calhoun's mother was M.J. Harper (possibly Mary Jane?) born circa 1831 in
Mississippi. M.J.'s parents were Richard Bryan Glenn Harper (1811-1878) and Mary Ann
Thomas (1812-1877). RBG Harper died in Grand Chenier, Cameron Parish, Louisiana and was
buried in the McCall Cemetery. I have this line a bit farther back, if you are
interested.
As for Alice's father, I have never been able to prove his name conclusively. One
cousin believes she was the daughter of a Benjamin Calhoun but couldn't find absolute
proof of that. At the age of 29, MJ was living with her parents in 1860 in Lauderdale
county, Missisippi. (She had her three children, W. Pack, Fannie & Alice with her.)
Do you know what the W.H. stood for?
I purchased a Family Maps of Lauderdale County, MS and found where RBG Harper owned land
in the T7-N R15-E quadrant. There were four different Calhoun's living nearby: John,
Hugh, Archibald G, and Duncan. (Their land was purchased in 1841) whereas RBG Harper had
purchased some lots between 1841 - 1858. Could any of these men be the father of a W. H.
Calhoun?
