This is a stretch...maybe she lost her Calhoun husband
in the war and somehow crossed paths with William
Hilkert at the end of the war when he was discharged
in Virginia? Did your Calhoun fight for the
Confederates?

Buntyn (m. Calhoun) that is of Native American
descent. I believe that she is Cherokee. I don't
have my research with me but the birth date is about
right, but I believe she died in 1932 give or take a
couple of years. When I get home I will check on
this. However they were never in New York. She was
raised in Georgia as were the Calhouns that she
married in to.
