Wow...Jefferson County is right next door (close
enough). Can you send me any more information? There
is a genealogist in that area that may provide further
help, but I would need locations and dates...Also,
Barzilla is an unusal surname, any idea of its
origination.
Are you from this Calhoun line?
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
David Sloan

I have a Frances Calhoun from Upstate New York
(Jefferson County) whose
parents were Benjamin Barzilla Calhoun (b: 1824)and
Olive Bartlett. I have
not been aware of any Native American people in that
family. However,
Benjamin Barzilla had two brothers, Samuel Carl (b:
1817) and Davis H. (b:
1829) both of whom married apparently Native
American sisters, Nancy and
Polly Clark. Again, it is circumstantial evidence,
but we have photographs
of Nancy that support it as well as family lore that
indicates Nancy was
Native American. I don't know of photographs of
Polly, but her descendant
with whom I have corresponded indicated that there
was lore also in that
line about the family being Native American.
