Charles A. Calhoun
Charles A. Calhoun passed away on Oct. 27, 2005, from a severe head injury. A memorial
service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church of Ashland,
2nd and B Street, Ashland, Oregon.
Charley was born in Delores, Colorado, on May 28, 1926. He moved to the Rogue Valley with
his parents at the age of two. After attending Ashland schools, he enlisted in the Army in
1944 and he served in the Asiatic Pacific, receiving a purple heart. Upon his return in
1946, he started a trucking company which he operated until 1965. At that time, he
purchased the Ashland School Buses which he operated until 1981 when they were sold to the
School District. He continued to supervise the maintenance of the school buses until his
death.
In 1948, he married Helen Hollingsworth of Ashland, who survives. They were married 58
years.
Charley loved to fish in Montana and travel, but he always said, "My work is my
hobby." In addition to his wife, survivors include, three children, Chuck Calhoun of
Morgan Hills, CA, Richard Calhoun of Jacksonville, and Diana Bouman of San Jose, CA; eight
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Charley was a loving, giving man and will be greatly missed.
