My husband was Bobby Lee Calhoun. We married in 1962 and had two children, Bobby Wayne and
Carlena Ann Calhoun. Bobby abandoned us when my children were babies and I lost all
contact with the Calhoun family. This is all I know. Bobby Lee's mother was Lucy
Johnson, from Newland, NC, father, Earl Calhoun, Newland, NC. siblings were Buddy Ray,
Earl Jr., Barbara, who was adopted to someone in Michigan, I believe. Carl, who was
adopted by the Tolly family in Butler, Tn. Jerry, who was adopted by the Markland family
in Valley Forge, Elizabethton, Tn. and Betty Gregg, born in Newland N.C. by Lucy's
second husband, Harold Gregg.
Bobby Lee died in 1998 from heart disease, Buddy Ray had a motorcycle accident and died in
2000, and Earl Jr. is dead and buried in a church cemetery in Morganton, NC. I'm in
the process of finding out the Church name. I was told that Betty Gregg is dead, but I
don't know for sure. Lucy Johnson Calhoun Gregg died of cancer. Bobby Lee and siblings
have a cousin, Jimmy Calhoun, son of Sylvester Calhoun, Earl's brother. He lives in
Cleveland, Ohio. There is a Calhoun reunion every year, the second Saturday in August in
Pineoli, NC at Pineoli Campground, or Campground by the river. They gather in at 12.00
noon and eat. A lot of the Calhouns from the Avery County area are there. I hope that
this is some help to you. Phyllis Stout Grindstaff
