Should anyone come across another Charles Calhoun -- much older -- who was
born in the mid- to late-1700's in either Scotland or NC, married Christian
Carmichael and lived in Richmond (now Scotland) County, NC, I'd love to hear
about it. He's one of my mystery ancestors.
Thanks.

Judith - Have just uncovered a letter written in 1903 by my 2nd
greatgrandfather Charles Calhoun, which states that his sister Margaret
married Francis Rankin and moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where she lived
until her death in 1920. Her chidren were Samuel (a civil engineer),
Letitia ("Lettie"), Jane, Lillie, Charles, Mary, Margaret, Frank, and
Isabelle. I have located the Rankin family in Louisville on the 1870, 1880,
and 1920 census. A second letter written by another Calhoun descendant
states that both Margaret and Robert Calhoun married Rankins from PA, and
Margaret married "Frank" in PA, moving with her family to Louisville, where
the author visited in 1920. Samuel was particularly described. Could this
be your Louisville Rankin family?
