Thanks for the fast reply, Valorie!
Yes, it is Noble in Branch County, MI. I had wondered if perhaps Wain was supposed to
mean Wayne Co or Wainscott but have no evidence of either at the moment. I was hoping
someone else would have some information before I started thinking about making a trip to
New York.
Honestly, I've just started doing this. My father researched the Lysters until he
reached a dead-end in Germany (the town was blown out of existance in WWII) but he
hasn't researched much of the Calhouns (my mothers family). I've taken what they
gave me and have been researching on the web. I have found Levi and Patience in the 1870
and 1880 census data but no sign of Charles except for a vague entry on the Family Search
website.
I'm hoping to make a trip over to Branch County with my father as soon as I can get a
day off. I'm told my cousin Stephen found Charles' grave in a small, somewhat
hidden cemetery. I was thinking of checking that out and then seeing what records I can
find at the Courthouse (and get some first-hand training from my father *grin*).
Thanks again!
