Thanks Teresa, I do appreciate your help.
I knew this 11 year old John Calhoun wasnt your guy, but after Beth's post, and since
this seems to be another family with such similar circumstances:
-an orphaned, or at least living-outside-the-family-unit Calhoun youngster
-similar names in family (John/ and John the father of James/ James who adopted Jordan)
-in the same general time period (1849/1850)
-and in the same state in adjoining counties (Pike,Barbour,Russell.)
I thought it was worth a mention here for possible further looks and to see if there were
any lateral or by-marriage family connections.
Beth, do you know why Jordan and Mary Calhoun were adopted and what relation they were to
the new gaurdians if any?
Were there any epidemics that hit Alabama in 1848-1849?
What occupations did the fathers or heads of households have? The 1850 McCoy household was
a physician, two attorneys, two mechanics and children. Any physicans or attorneys in
either Calhoun household? Any reason these two or three Calhouns might have other business
connections with each other?
If anyone sees a relationship in any way, please feel free to post. I think any
correlations are worth checking up on.
Diane
