George Calhoun (Sr.) and his wife Elizabeth are buried in the Steele
Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Charlotte in Mecklenburg County,
NC. George Calhoun died in 8 Jun 1795 age 83. Also buried there is
Zaccheus Wilson Calhoun who died 1781, their son I believe. George and
Elizabeth were the parents of George and Charles who both died in
Williamson County, TN. The name "Zaccheus" keeps popping up in the
family and I believe Elizabeth Calhoun, the wife of George Calhoun Sr.
was a sister to Zaccheus Wilson who died in Oglethorpe Co. GA in 1796.
Zaccheus' daughters, Margaret and Ann, married their cousins, George
and Charles Calhoun. Earlier the name was often spelled "Cahoon". I
cannot vertify this, but I have seen some records that say George
Calhoun 1712-1795 was born in Strahulter, Ireland. I guess "Big
Springs, TN" is in Wilson Co. TN and George Calhoun Jr. and Charles
Calhoun had a brother Samuel who settled there.
