COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE
Donald Leroy Calhoun, 74, a longtime Moses Lake resident passed away at Swedish Hospital
in Seattle on May 23, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31,
at Kayser's Chapel of Memories. There will be a reception celebrating his life
directly following the service at Michael's on the Lake.
Don was born in Garfield, Wash. on Sept. 21, 1933, to Pete and Elva Calhoun. Don graduated
from Garfield High School and joined the Army and served four years in Northern Japan.
After he was discharged he attended WSU where he received his B.A. of Education and later
his M.A. in Education. In 1962 he moved to Moses Lake and accepted his first teaching job
at Moses Lake High School where he taught history until he became vice principal of the
high school in 1974. Retiring in 1991, he traveled extensively all over the world. At home
he hunted ducks with friends at the Potholes and was an avid fisherman (catch and release
kind of guy) who planned a yearly fishing trip to Saskatchewan. He enjoyed spending time
with his grandchildren and took them on special trips around the United States. Don took
pleasure sharing his travels and experiences with others by helping organize and plan
trips for family and friends.
Don was preceded in his death by his brother Max and his parents. Don's survived by
his daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and John Tousley of Mukilteo, Wash., as well as his
grandchildren Whitney Larson, Tyler Larson, Trevor Larson, Meagan Tousley and Zachary
Tousley, Great Uncle and Aunt, Roy and Phyllis Dailey, and numerous cousins.
Donations may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.
